Romania Project 2023

World at Play's 2023 International Project sees 7 volunteers from Cardiff University spend 3 weeks working in five communities in Romania.  You can follow their blogs and read the project summary and outcomes below.

TRAINING WEEK

A full week of training was completed in Wales before the team of volunteers departed to run the 2023 International Project. Seven students from Cardiff University come together to begin what will be a life changing experience for them.

Ponorata

The teams first week of the journey is complete, it was time to put that training into action. They worked with over 100 children in three days in Ponorata working alongside our on the ground partners Reality Check.

BAIA MARE

Our next leg of the adventure was spent with the amazing Pirita community working with the incredible Claudia of the Pirita Children Association. Here we worked with the poorest, most marginalised community in Baia Mare.

Nucșoara

The team spent a weekend working with our partners Casa Buna in a community built alongside a river. Find out more about how they spread joy to children and learnt about their lives below.

Bucharest

The team began work with refugees based in the capital city. Some of these children have been here in Romania since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, yet others have only recently arrived. Our mission was to bring joy and enthusiasm to these children.

Perspective

Any World at Play journey brings surprises along with it. Here, the team reflect about what it’s like to immerse yourself in communities that are very different from what you have experienced.
