2020 UGANDA - From Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement

When we come in the world, we all think that things will always happen the way we want until some bad situations surprise us and this completely changes our life.

I just remember when I was still a child, my family was not able to provide me all I needed but that didn’t mean that I had a painful childhood because my parents had one thing most special to make me feel better: tender loving care, especially they taught me to never search for my happiness in someone’s pain but to be happy by making others laugh and to never give up.

As a refugee and orphan of father at the age of 15 and of mother at 23, it really hurts to be separated with the people who were ready to risk their lives for my well-being, even though now I am an adult, I still hear their voices in my head. It is so painful to don’t have someone to call father or mother. But when I see children who became orphans at their earlier age, I feel so sad and I realize how much I am even if it hurts inside. Most of them are orphans because of conflicts and others because of lack of antenatal treatment for their mothers. Happiness does not mean having money into your pocket but peace of mind and hope for a good tomorrow.

There is nothing more important to do in your life than bring a smile up on someone who is in a bad situation. After many researches, I have realized that there are different ways to bring happiness in someone’s life, and one of them is to play and have fun with those who have a sad past or are in bad conditions.

Therefore, after hearing about World At Play and it’s Sport And Play Uganda 2020 program I directly made a decision without thinking twice about what I was doing or what was on my program because what I want in my whole life is to help others by bringing joy, hope and peace in their lives.

After three weeks in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, I can say that the result of our efforts is beyond what I was expecting. During our first week, it was not very easy but we got what we expected and that was thanks to our teamwork and different strategies, the support of our team leaders who I salute warmly. The second and third weeks were very amazing and plenty of good surprises because we learned from our mistakes and now we are running best sessions day after day. When I see children laughing I just say inside of me: Well done Patrick, you’re making it! Each day I am learning new things and I am not ready to stop it.

“Together we can make things out.”

A very big thank to the WAP promoter for creating this organization that has a very good impact in these children and young adults who are victims of insecurity, war conflicts and so many other problems like tribal discrimination.

I am really happy and grateful for being selected for the Sport And Play Uganda 2020 program.

“Someone can care about a world no one can see.”
