summer camp first edition - 2023

Holiday summer camps are programs organised by RCA Uganda to bring out of school and school going refugee youths together to keep them engaged, busy and support them on their mental health while schools in Uganda are on breaks/closed. If youths are not engaged in constructive activities while on break may end up engaging in activities that put their lives and future in danger. The camps takes place three times a year.

During the summer camp activities young people get the opportunity to lead, have fun, connect and compete in a structured friendly tournament of football, chess, team building and community development.

“The camps are a great way to advance gender equality, inclusion and development of soft skills that are important in daily life.”

At the start of each session the youths engage in team building games as way to bring teams together, getting to know names and connecting as a team.

With Support from World At Play, This September 2023 RCA Uganda organized the second edition of the summer holidays camp that so over 200+ youths take part daily for three weeks of camp activities. This edition refugee youths enjoyed each other’s company, snacks, drinks and awards form RCA Uganda in collaboration with World At Play.

Following Our Objective to raise and nurture Future leaders youths are divided in different teams and each team is assigned a TEAM CAPTAIN who acts as role modal and leads the team all the way. This ensures that youth leadership and community development are recognized and supported.

The Future of the Summer Camps

The summer camps are seen not only a period to have fun but also a period for youths to enjoy free food in this challenging food crisis of Nakivale. The next camps with adequate support are expected to restore hopes for over 300-550 youths and provide leadership opportunities to over 50 – 70 youths.

“Thank you, we are captains, we were just in the holiday camp!”
